Karmameju was founded in 1999 by Danes Mette Skjærbæk and Julie Krogstad. Julie Krogstad left the brand in 2007, after which Mette has continued its development and shaped the brand that Karmameju is today.
Mette Skjærbæk’s product development is always centred on an uncompromising approach to creating exceptional products that optimise the skin and stimulate the senses through scent, sight and touch. As a green-hearted skincare visionary, innovation and integrity are crucial to everything she creates:
”After ten years as a model in the beauty and fashion industry, I experienced first-hand how mentally strengthening self-care, home spa rituals and 'natural health' can be. In my little apartment in New York, I delved beneath the surface of the whole concept of 'natural health' and created everything from teas to aromatherapy candles, perfume compositions and bath salts. It was during this time that I developed a deep-felt desire to create not only natural products, but also highly effective, results-driven skincare - my absolute guiding star in creating Karmameju Skincare. When I returned home from New York, I founded Karmameju with an ambition to redefine wellbeing.
Other elements, such as working with fascinating, sense-stimulating aromatherapy, are also essential to me. The use of natural scent has been a passion of mine since I was 18, when I discovered nature’s enriching universe of scent.
The concept of "holistic health" has captivated me since I was very young, and the scent of my parents’ big greenhouse is still one of my strongest scent memories. I have always been drawn to nature, both the blissful calm it instils and the miraculous, vibrant bioactivity that impresses me so much. I believe that we are deeply connected to nature, and that the body understands all that is natural.
Combining skincare with my love of holistic health creates the perfect balance for me.
