“A while back I was sent an article, based on scientific studies, that flipped my world of skincare upside down. Recent scientific studies have discovered why healthy skin is an essential part of longevity.”

We love naturally derived mineral sunscreens for their many benefits. However, there are two key things you need to be aware of before application. Read this article to find out what they are and get our guide on how to easily and effortlessly apply mineral sunscreens, so you can enjoy the sun with peace of mind.
Karmameju's approach to holistic skincare makes mineral sun filters, also known as physical sun filters, the only right choice of UV protection in the SUN range. Mineral sun filters consist of zinc oxide, which is a naturally derived mineral extracted from soil, that melts and settles on top of the skin like a shield that protects against UV rays by reflecting them away from the skin.
But mineral sunscreens are often known for being difficult to spread and for leaving a whitish cast – KARMAMEJU SUN does neither.
The formulation is transparent, lightweight on the skin and easy to apply.
If you do experience that a mineral sunscreen is difficult to blend into the skin, there are two things worth remembering before application that can make it easier...
1. Mineral pigments need to be “melted into the skin” through thorough application with warm hands in order to become transparent. We recommend warming the sunscreen between your hands before applying it to the face or body. Apply the sunscreen in two layers to ensure the product is worked properly into the skin and evenly distributed across the entire body.
2. Dry skin and mineral pigments are not always the best combination. If the skin is dry, the sunscreen may appear more greyish or visible on the skin. Well-hydrated and exfoliated skin is therefore beneficial when using mineral-based sunscreen.
Dry brushing helps remove dry skin cells, making it an ideal skincare ritual to prioritise during sunscreen season — and throughout the year. Exfoliating with a body scrub is another excellent way to prep the skin.
Well-hydrated skin can be achieved with either body lotion, body oil or our PRE- & AFTER SUN. Its high content of antioxidants helps strengthen the skin’s defences before sun exposure, while bioactive ingredients such as aloe vera help hydrate, soothe and support the skin after sun exposure.
Extra Tip: Remember smart sun habits

Use the UV index and your common sense when applying sunscreen to yourself and the kids. Ideally, sunscreen should be applied every 2 hours if you're in direct sunlight, or more often if you swim, towel dry, or sweat heavily. We also recommend taking a siesta: take a break from the sun and enjoy a refreshing smoothie when the sun is at its peak between 12 and 3 PM.
Karmameju SUN
Karmameju SUN is created uncompromisingly with nature’s ingredients, without silicone or chemical UV filters. In 2025, we developed a new-generation mineral sunscreen that applies easily and effortlessly to the skin — without the white cast often associated with mineral sunscreen.
With the right technique, applying mineral sunscreens is effortless.
Enjoy the sun and happy applying!
