Karmameju's Mineral Sunscreen

Karmameju’s approach to holistic skincare makes mineral sun filters, also known as physical sun filters, the only right choice of sun filter in the SUN range. Mineral sun filters consist of minerals of natural origin from the earth, which melt and settle on the surface of the skin as a sun-protective shield that reflects UV rays away from the skin.

The benefits of natural mineral sun filters, also known as physical UV filters, are many: among other things, they are gentle and do not penetrate the skin, and are therefore less likely to irritate the skin, for example in the case of sun rash.

But mineral sun filters are often known for being difficult to spread and for leaving a whitish cast – KARMAMEJU SUN does neither. The formulation is transparent, light on the skin and easy to spread.

If you do have a mineral sunscreen that is difficult to spread, remembering two things in particular before application can make it easier...

Your Guide to Mineral Sunscreens

1. Mineral pigments need to be “melted into the skin” through thorough application with warm hands in order to become transparent: warm the sunscreen between your hands before applying it to the body/face. We recommend applying the sunscreen in two rounds, so that you work the product in properly and cover the entire body.

2. Dry skin and mineral pigments are not always the best of friends. If your skin is dry, the “greyish” cast will show on the skin. Well-hydrated and exfoliated skin is therefore an advantage if you want to use a mineral-based sunscreen.

Dry brushing removes dry skin, making it a perfect skincare ritual to prioritise during sunscreen season – in fact, all year round. Exfoliating with a body scrub is another good way to prep the skin.

You can achieve well-hydrated skin with either body lotion, body oil or our PRE- & AFTER SUN. Its high content of antioxidants helps strengthen the skin’s defences before sun exposure, while bioactive ingredients such as aloe vera moisturise, repair and soothe the skin after sun exposure.

Extra tip: Remember smart sun habits

Use the UV index and your common sense when applying sunscreen to yourself and the kids.

Ideally, sunscreen should be applied every 2 hours if you are in direct sunlight, or more often if you swim, towel dry or sweat heavily. We also recommend taking a siesta: take a break from the sun and enjoy a refreshing smoothie when the sun is at its highest between 12 noon and 3 pm.

Karmameju SUN

Karmameju SUN is created uncompromisingly with nature’s ingredients, without silicone and chemical sun filters. We have developed a mineral sunscreen 2.0 (in 2025) that applies easily and effortlessly to the skin - without the white film often associated with mineral sunscreen.

Enjoy the sun and happy applying!

Forest bathing – support your immune system with the aromatherapy of the forest

Even if you don’t use aromatherapeutic skincare or products for the home, nature still ensures that aromatherapy is all around us. Trees and plants release invisible plant compounds, phytoncides, which research links to lower stress levels and increased activity in the body’s natural defence cells. This is a beautiful account of forest bathing, nature’s aromatherapy and the scientific evidence behind it.
