Inspired by Classical Antiquity
The rose was one of the most highly prized fragrances of Classical Antiquity and was associated with beauty, sensuality and natural aphrodisiac qualities. It was used in perfumes, medicine, celebrations and religious rituals. In contrast to our modern associations of rose as a feminine fragrance, rose scents were primarily worn by men, while deeper woody notes were worn by women. Fragrance also played a role in the sense-awakening expression of Classical Antiquity, as perfumes were luxury goods. Sculptures that we know today as raw, white marble could originally have been painted, adorned and perfumed with the scent of rose – almost like ancient mannequins. In other words, Classical Antiquity was full of colour and fragrance. ROSE interprets this fragrance culture with Rosa Damascena – hand-harvested from biodiverse fields in England and distilled into an aromatic rosewater.
The design
The design is inspired by ancient glass vessels used for perfumes and oils. Their characteristic pearlescent iridescence inspired the surface of the packaging – a contemporary interpretation with roots in Classical Antiquity.

Rosa Damascena
The rose was highly prized in the ancient world for its beauty, fragrance and use in perfumes, bathing rituals and festive ceremonies. Rosa Damascena has a rich, floral and velvety aroma with notes of fresh petals and soft nuances of honey – reminiscent of a sumptuous rose garden in full bloom.
In aromatherapy, rose is associated with harmony, emotional openness, sensuality and vitality.
Karmameju’s rose
Our Rosa Damascena is hand-harvested in our producer’s organic fields in England, where cultivation focuses on nature and biodiversity. The fragrant roses are gently distilled into an aromatic hydrolat – rosewater that hydrates and refreshes the skin while retaining the rose’s distinctive scent.
