Antioxidant Vitamin C smoothie
Mette SkjærbækVitamin C is an important antioxidant that contributes to the functioning of the immune system, which protects your body from bacteria and viruses. Our bodies cannot produce vitamin C and it is essential that we get it through the food we consume.
In addition, vitamin C helps to strengthen your skin from within and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C fights off free radicals and helps restore and protect the skin.
This recipe makes about ½ litre of smoothie.
The fruit and vegetables used can be frozen or fresh.
- ¼ red pepper
- 5 clumps of frozen spinach
- 1 banana
- Juice of ½ lemon
- ½ passion fruit
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 2 teaspoons sunflower seeds
- 3 dl water, coconut water or cold herbal tea*
- 1 teaspoon linseed oil
- 2 teaspoon olive oil
If you like spicy ingredients add anti-inflammatory chili or cayenne pepper.
Note: Several of these foods contain zinc, which also supports the immune system.
Preparation
/ Put all of the ingredients in the blender except for the oil. Blend until the smoothie is creamy with no lumps.
/ Add the linseed and olive oil and blend for another 10 seconds until the smoothie is ready to drink.
Other good sources of vitamin C
Pineapple, oranges, celery, cauliflower, blueberries, broccoli, grapefruit, kale, green pepper, sea buckthorn, rose hips, strawberries, kiwi, coriander, lime, new potatoes, papaya, parsley, blackcurrant berries, sprouts and apples.
*** Make a pot of tea in the evening before going to bed. Let it cool overnight so it will be ready to add to your smoothie in the morning. Get more tips for making smoothies here.
