When I first started my smoothie ritual, it wasn’t really for the sake of my skin. A few years ago, I realised that my kids did not eat six pieces of fruit and vegetable every day, as recommended by the Danish Health Authority
Maybe they would have some fruit for breakfast. For lunch, who knows what happens to those packed lunches when you’re not looking? Evening meals are easier to manage, but we also often eat out with friends, go to birthday parties, etc. One thing was for certain: my kids were not getting their six pieces of fruit and vegetable every day.
From sweet, child-friendly smoothies to wild powerhouses
I decided to start making smoothies as a supplement to breakfast, starting out gently with classics such as yoghurt, banana and strawberries. Before long, I began to add a little spinach, and then a little bee pollen, and then a little cold green tea to reduce the amount of yoghurt.
Over the course of around six months, they went from being sweet, child-friendly smoothies to wild anti-inflammatory, vitamin, protein and mineral-rich powerhouses with healthy fats and packed with superfoods – and the kids didn’t complain.
Today, our smoothies are very different to how they were when we started, and they are the easiest way to make sure we all get a healthy serving of nutritious, plant-based ingredients every day. I highly recommend it as a really good start to the day, which I wouldn’t want to be without myself.
You can feel it in your body and your energy levels, and it’s an easy and effective way to care for your skin from the inside. Smoothies are the perfect skinfood, and by adding anti-inflammatory ingredients to your smoothie, you can help rid the skin and body of many internal and external inflammatory conditions. It’s good for our bodies and it’s good for our skin, too.
But do they taste good?
Ingredients such as lemon juice, chili, ginger, pineapple and strawberry are good for “masking” the taste of kale, broccoli and cabbage. We’re all different, but if you ask me, I think they taste good. I always recommend an “easy-does-it” approach in the beginning and then gradually get used to the new flavour.

An alkaline body is a happy body, and when the body is comfortable and the skin feels good. The Alkaline Smoothie contains foods that promote an alkaline intestinal system, which is anti-inflammatory and boosts your body with vitamins and minerals.
