THOUGHTS FROM METTE

For the first time, Mette has been photographed with both of her daughters for Karmameju – for a campaign that holds a special place in her heart. SUN 2.0 isn’t just about sunscreen. It’s about family, skincare traditions and conscious choices we pass on to the next generation. In this blog post, Mette shares her thoughts behind the campaign, reflections on body, skin and lifestyle – and why sun protection has always been a cause close to her heart.

I’ve never had my picture taken with both of my daughters for Karmameju.

Mostly because they were very young, and I wanted them be old enough to make the decision themselves. And also because there hasn’t been a campaign – until now – where it made as much sense as it does with SUN 2.0.

Because sunscreen is a family thing.
A choice we make for our children.
An inspiration we pass on – for life.

My commitment to sunscreen started back in my twenties, when I lived in New York and my “green” journey truly began. Actually, that’s not quite true – it began in my parents’ garden and kitchen.
But it was in New York that my “adult, green” journey took shape, and a holistic view of human health became my personal path.

Since I started leaning about skincare ingredients and the impact they can have on our body, there has only been one kind of sunscreen for me: those with physical filters, derived from the minerals of the earth. Mineral sun filters.

Which UV filters we use is a topic that has been widely discussed among skincare enthusiasts for years. To me, it’s an important choice – and one I hope to raise more awareness about.
Essentially, the three options are: mineral, chemical or nano sun filters. Mineral is my choice and I’ve always avoided the last two, to stay on the safe side.

You can read more in my article: “Why I only use mineral UV filters”.

And so – here we are. My girls and I. In the SUN 2.0 campaign for Karmameju.

I think this is the first time I’ve been photographed in a swimsuit since the ‘90s – back when I worked in the fashion industry. I said yes to being in the SUN campaign when magnificent Signe Vilstrup said yes to photographing it. Because Signe takes the most beautiful pictures, like paintings. She sees your best sides and captures them. Her way of working is enchanting – a whirlwind of creativity, flowing fabrics, nylon stockings as camera filters, studio lights and pure joy.
My girls said yes too, and I’m simply so grateful for that day – and for the images that now exist. Of Mila, Felina and me. Of my kiddoes. For the future. A time, a place, in history.

It feels a little peculiar to be photograped in swimwear.  And I was just looking through the photos before the launch…

I have challenges with my body on the inside. I’m hypermobile and have burdened my joints, so I need to build muscle around them for support. My bones appreciate extra impact, weight and resistance. My hormones are a bit all over the place. I take Vitamin D, calcium and other supplements to help keep everything balanced.
My body is both strong and fragile at the same time. All the training I do is with respect for the body. For example, I miss running sometimes – but my knees don’t agree, so I don’t. On the other hand, both my body and mind love hot/cold bath therapy stimulation – so I do that. I train in the ways wise people have told me I need to. I eat lots of fruits, vegetables, seeds, grains, protein, oils and more – because all the cells love it.
Plus some of all the other stuff, the mind and body likes.

Anyway, that was a bit of a side track – and not what I meant to write about.
A reflection, really – that what matters most is what’s within.

After months of grey skies and cold weather, we approached the photoshoot date

... A day dedicated to sharing the message: “It’s always best to apply your first layer of sunscreen at home.”
That good, thorough application – when you’re not dressed and can pay attention to every area: face, ears, neck, body, even the soles of your feet… all of it.
The sun is wonderful, but also wild – and it’s so important to protect the skin, our largest organ. So alive. So vital.

As we got closer to the day of shooting, the weather forecast shifted – from clouds to clearer and clearer skies. And incredibly, we were gifted with what felt like the very first summer’s day of the year.

We could even be outside in swimwear – without getting goose bumps. I felt overwhelmed with gratitude, because the sun always makes the day and the pictures more beautiful. And in a time where I am concerned about many things in the world, that moment of lightness felt like such a gift.

When we took the photos of me in the bedroom, it felt surreal

... to apply SPF 30 again and again – and just watch it melt invisibly into the skin. Not just one layer, but layer upon layer – and still so invisible that it wasn’t caught by the lens. Mineral filters used to mean blue-white, greasy skin, right?

Well... not anymore.

We’ve come so far. With SUN 1.0, we made it 90% of the way – and with SUN 2.0, I feel that we made it all the way.
I’m genuinely happy to bring you sun protection and skin care in one – a formula that meets all the criteria I believe in for a sunscreen for the whole family. And with all the elements needed to protect the skin – with longevity in mind.

I hope you’ll have a wonderful summer.

With love,
Mette
