OUR INGREDIENTS

Karmameju is a Danish skincare brand based in Copenhagen. Our roots are Scandinavian, but the whole world is our garden, and its legacy of skincare rituals is our inspiration.

As we believe in the human connection with nature, we base our skincare on natural, bioactive and organic ingredients. Created with biotechnology, plant oils, plant extracts, essential oils and clinically proven ingredients.

Clinically proven ingredients

We use a wide range of natural, clinically proven ingredients in Karmameju Skincare. Clinically proven ingredients are your guarantee of the optimal effect and visible results. Clinical tests measure the effect of a specific ingredient on the skin based on a number of different parameters, such as whether the ingredient increases moisture levels, reduces redness, smoothes fine lines, stimulates collagen production, is antimicrobial, protects against pollution and so on.

The tests are conducted by a third-party company that is impartial towards the result to ensure that the results are not biased. We use our proven ingredients in combination with vegetable oils, plant extracts, essential oils, etc.

Plant extracts

Plant extracts consist of extracts from roots, flowers, bark and leaves, etc. They are rich in antioxidants, proteins, amino acids, lipids, vitamins, minerals and organic salts. Plant extracts come in the form of concentrated liquids, solid plant substances or a gel consistency depending on the extraction method. The individual plant parts are dissolved by extraction, distillation or other methods which release the bioactive raw materials from the plants.

Two examples of plant extracts in Karmameju’s skincare formulations are our clinically proven, organic extract from ginger root and our organic, fresh, cold-pressed Aloe Vera.

Plant oils

Karmameju’s skincare contains high doses of protective antioxidant-rich and nourishing plant oils, the structure of which is very similar to the structure of skin cells, making them extremely compatible with the skin. Vegetable oils also contain a wealth of nutrients, including antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids, and promote the synthesis of ceramide, which is important for skin health and glow.

Examples of bioactive plant oils in our skincare are moringa oil, rosehip seed oil, sea buckthorn oil, oat kernel oil, shea butter and chia seed oil.

Biotechnology

Biotechnology is based on biological science. A science that opens up new avenues for using natural, active and sustainable ingredients in skincare. The word technically refers to ingredients that are developed and grown in a laboratory using nature’s own organisms, such as algae, yeast or good bacteria. With biotechnology, we can create skin-enhancing results with ingredients that actively work in synergy with our skin.

Hyaluronic acid, peptides, niacinamide and postbiotics are just some examples of our many clinically proven ingredients developed with biotechnology.

Essential oils

Essential oils are the cornerstone of aromatherapy and have been used for centuries in the world of medicine. Created by nature, they have a unique and holistic effect that both affects our mental well-being and improves the condition of the skin. Lavender, for example, is known to soothe both the skin and the mind. Essential oils are known to affect the nervous system, help tissue repair, stimulate the skin for better circulation, glow, regeneration and balance, as well as to reduce redness and sensitivity.

We use bioactive, natural fragrances in our skincare, rather than inactive, synthetic fragrance molecules produced in a laboratory. Essential oils are extremely bioactive, effective, and concentrated, with a highly complex chemistry – each oil is composed of hundreds of unique compounds. It is a more expensive choice, but we will not compromise on our values. Both natural and synthetic fragrances go by the name of “perfume” when mentioned in the context of skincare. Karmameju only uses 100% natural perfume from essential oils in our skincare.

We love the scents of nature and the original art of perfumery. Our natural fragrance combinations are mixed in such a way that the different aromas complement one another for a specific effect on the skin and mind. Each fragrance in each product is composed as in a real perfume with base, heart, and top notes to ensure a deep, intoxicating and complete fragrance experience.

All our unique Karmameju fragrances are created in close collaboration with our nature perfumer and aromatherapist based in England. Explore the fragrances in our skincare and our Eau de Parfums.

If you wish to use perfume-free skincare, we have several products formulated without essential oils.
